Vancouver 2010 Olympics

As we near the end of MOvember, the excitement of the 2010 games increases. Whistler is experiencing record snowfalls for the month of November which is really promising. One of my concerns was the amount of snow that we would have this year after a blazing hot summer, but so far everything looks great. It will be an exciting time to showcase our beautiful city and province to the rest of the world.

I have always preferred the winter Olympics over the summer games. I imagine it’s because I’m Canadian and the winter games feature so many of the sports I like to enjoy. My favorite event in years past has always been the mens’ freestyle moguls, but more recently I tend to enjoy the snowboarding half pipe competition and the big air.

The 2010 Olympics is sure to be truly special and I can’t wait for a Canadian to win gold on home soil.   It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to host the games and we should all get involved with it as much as we can.  The experiences we all share will be the stories that we tell for years to come.

In January, leading up to the games, my mom will carry the Olympic torch through my home town of  Powell River and my brother and sisters and I plan to make the trip home to enjoy it with her.  What an honor.  I am so proud of my mom and I am happy to see one of her lifelong dreams come true.  I couldn’t think of a better candidate to represent Powell River, British Columbia and Canada.

My Olympic experiences are few, but maybe more than some.  My dad’s cousin “Michelle Cameron” took part in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul South Korea and won gold in the “Women’s Duet Synchronized Swimming”.  I have also met and played golf with Ross Rebagliati who won gold for Canada in Snowboarding in Nagano, Japan and also Catriona Le May Doan at a RE/MAX confernce last year.  She is a three time Olympic medalist in speed skating.

What is your favorite event?  Besides hockey of course.  Have you met any of the Canadian athletes? Do you plan to attend any of the festivities? Or do you have tickets for sale?  I would love to hear your stories.  Only 78 more sleeps:)

Nice post mate. I’ve been a little concerned with how slowly it’s taking the Vancouver community to warm up to the excitement that an event like this brings. But we’re getting there…

Personally, I’m looking forward not only to the hockey and snowboarding events, but also to the Ski Jump – one of the most incredible spectacles you can witness live.

Shame I didn’t come even close to getting tickets… :(

PS. Want to place a wager on Aussie vs Canadian gold???

Thanks Rob. I think everyone will come around when they see the amount of people etc. that show up. I’m pretty confident that Vancouver knows how to party:) As for Aussie’s vs. Canadians… you’re on. My friend has tickets for a few of the events. I’ll see if I can get a price list.
